I help individuals and businesses tell their stories by bringing their personality to life through photos and video.
At age 10, I fell in love with photography. My Dad showed me the magic in our DIY basement darkroom. After studying Psychology at Trent University in Peterborough, ON, I had the privilege of attending Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. I spent the late 90s working as a freelance photographer for various publications such as The National Post, Outside, NOW, and XTRA magazines. I shot events, weddings, families, musicians, and even dogs. In the early 2000s I earned an M.A. in Community Development & Adult Education and a B.Ed. I’ve taught high school and in the community for 30+ years, and worked on documentary film and photo projects. Other artistic endeavours include: initiated Write from the Hip, at Nightwood Theatre for young women playwrights; co-founded a queer cowboy band called The Jane Waynes; and exhibited my photography work in galleries in Ontario, and the U.S.
I’m a photographer, educator, and storyteller. Drawing on experiences as a world traveller, nature lover, teacher, parent, and genderqueer butch, I explore and document the lived realities of queer communities and underserved youth. What underpins my creative process is engagement and connection. I’m most proud that my artistic journey includes diverse populations and art practices. I continue to appreciate the ways in which a photographic session creates an intimate connection between photographer and subject. In these past 3 years, my love for portrait photography has been re-ignited via Finding Handsome - a project very close to my heart, and culturally essential for the times. Photography still feeds my soul, and for that I'm grateful.
My photography focuses on people - portraits, headshots, documentary and small business branding, working both in the studio and on location.
